Russian billionaires lose over $15 bln in one day on US sanctions

MOSCOW, Apr 10 (PRIME) -- Russian billionaires lost more than U.S. $15 billion during one day after the imposition of new U.S. sanctions, as calculated by PRIME on Tuesday on the basis of Bloomberg Billionaires Index (BBI)’s materials.

Norilsk Nickel CEO Vladimir Potanin was the biggest faller with a $2.28 billion loss. Viktor Vekselberg, the owner of multi-industry holding Renova Group, lost $1.28 billion, while the fortune of oil company Lukoil CEO Vagit Alekperov decreased by $1.37 billion.

The BBI rating covers 500 richest people in the world and is updated daily. It currently comprises 25 Russians.

On April 6, the U.S. imposed sanctions against a total of 38 Russian tycoons, officials and companies.
